Canlı Kitap (Augmented Reality Book)

Canlı Kitap project is one of the rare applications that can turn Augmented Reality (AR) technology into practice. Canlı Kitap, which has been developed by the unique Augmented Reality System of Rotasoft (Arota), is the very first commercial augmented reality book in the world. The Canlı Kitap products have been released in Turkey before worldwide distribution. Canlı Kitap has also been patented by Turkish National Patent Institute. The project has been supported by TUBITAK within industry research and development assistance.

Canlı Kitap has a standard book shape. However, when it is displayed on the computer screen through a web camera; Canlı Kitap turns into an multimedia-rich educational material with 3-3-dimensional (3D) models, animations, sounds and videos. 3D virtual objects are attached to the concrete book and are animated on the book . This way without touching keyboard and mouse, the models and animations on the book can be moved, changed, and visualized from different view angles.

Canlı Kitap project products have two different book formats: supplementary course text books and fairy tale series. For primary school students, “Vücudumuzu Tanıyalım” (Explore our Body), “Madde ve Özellikleri” (Matter and Its Properties), “Kuvvet Hareket” (Force and Motion), and “Gezegenimiz Dünya” (Our Planet: Earth) books have been developed. For pre-school students, “Pinokyo” (Pinocciho), “Pamuk Prenses ve Yedi Cüceler” (Snow White and Seven Dwarfs), “Aladdin’in Sihirli Lambası” (Aladdin’s Magic Lamp), and “Noel Baba” (Santa Claus) have been developed.

The Canlı Kitap project, which has been released in Turkey and the first commercial product in the world, has been awarded in both national and international competitions.
